Think Pink for Breakfast!

As many of us know, October means more than just costumes, candy, and foliage. It is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It's when our brains start to "Think Pink" and even our beloved NFL teams sport that signature color recognizing the women who have fought the battle.

Below you will find the information from Panera Bread's Pink Ribbon Bagel Campaign where 10 cents of every bagel sold goes directly to the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation in hopes to find a cure.

This foundation is especially important to me as my mother is a Breast Cancer survivor and it is with thanks to Dr. Susan Love's apprentice, Dr. Susan Troyan, that my mom is now in remission.

PRESS RELEASE:

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, Panera Bread bakery-cafes in Southern California have teamed up with the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.

Shaped in the form of the iconic pink ribbon, Panera Bread’s signature Pink Ribbon Bagel® features cherry chips, dried cherries, cranberries, vanilla, honey, and brown sugar, and are baked fresh each morning by Panera Bread bakers. Over two million Pink Ribbon Bagels were sold nationally in 2012.

On Friday, October 18, 100 percent of net sales from the signature Pink Ribbon bagel in 66 bakery-cafes in Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, Riverside, Santa Barbara and San Bernardino counties will be donated to the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation and its mission to achieve a future without breast cancer by focusing on prevention and finding the cause.

Throughout the rest of October, 10 cents from each Pink Ribbon Bagel sold  will be donated to the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation.

A staple each year in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, since its inception in 2001, total donations from Pink Ribbon Bagel sales have raised a total of more than $1 million for breast cancer charities.

The Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation reports that 232,000 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer this year. The Foundation works to eradicate breast cancer and improve the quality of women's health through innovative research, education, and advocacy.

“The Pink Ribbon Bagel is an easy way for customers to contribute to innovative research that’s moving us closer to eradicating breast cancer,” said Ingrid Roberts, managing director of First Picks Bread Company, a Panera Bread franchisee. “We’re proud to work with the communities we serve and the Dr. Susan Love Foundation to raise money for such an important cause.”

“We’re dedicated to democratizing and facilitating research that will get to the root of breast cancer so we can prevent it altogether,” said Dr. Susan Love. “With each Pink Ribbon Bagel purchased, Panera Bread and its customers are funding groundbreaking research that will help achieve our goal of ending breast cancer in our lifetime.”

The Pink Ribbon Bagel concept began in 2001 when Sue Stees, co-owner of 18 Panera Bread franchise locations in Oklahoma, and a breast cancer survivor herself, began searching for ways to help other women battling cancer. Her search led her to the kitchen, where she developed the Pink Ribbon Bagel to help raise funds for research. She sold 27,000 bagels in her bakery-cafes that first year. To date, more than seven million Pink Ribbon Bagels have been sold system-wide.

About the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation
The Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation’s mission is to achieve a future without breast cancer by focusing on prevention and finding the cause. This will be accomplished by democratizing research to include the public’s voice in the process, facilitating research through programs like the Army of Women launched in 2008 as a resource for researchers, and performing research through projects like the innovative Health of Women Study, created in 2012 to identify the cause and cost of the disease through an online cohort. The Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, and its more than 373,000 volunteers nationwide, invite you to Act with Love and become part of a movement to bring the public voice to breast cancer research with the goal of eradicating the disease once and for all.
