Oscar Recipe: Edamame Guacamole

Edamame Guacamole

Here's a new spin on an old favorite courtesy of Wolfgang Puck!

So many people today enjoy edamame, those delicious little fresh soybeans, usually
served as a snack in Japanese restaurants, simply boiled in their pods, sprinkled with
some sea salt, and popped from pod to mouth. But thinking of other ways they could be
enjoyed, my team and I came up with the idea of including them in guacamole, pureed
along with ripe avocados and seasonings. The result is a touch lighter in taste and
texture (and fat) than traditional guacamole, with a beautiful pale-green color. Serve it
with your favorite chips or fresh vegetable for dipping.

Oscar Recipe: Crab Louie

1/4 red onion, finely diced

1 whole avocado, diced

An Oscar Trend Alert: [Beauty] La Vie en Rose

by makeup artist Melissa Perelli

When I think of red-carpet makeup, two looks immediately come to mind: red lips, and dramatic eyes.  Chances are you just read my mind and also had a similar vision. While these two iconic beauty styles will forever be synonymous with Hollywood glamour, I’m expecting to see a new hue on the lips of starlets this year… and it’s coming up rose. That’s right- the iconic red made a baby with the lovely pink and she’s more in demand than the next célèbre-mommy.

The Oscars-inspired look I’ve created for you would catch the eye of the paparazzi, and I haven’t even gotten to the best part yet- it’s simple! But before I reveal how you can get the look at home, I’d love to tell you why I chose it for Kasey’s Kitchen Academy Awards coverage. My inspiration for this look came from two different sources:
·      In 2008, Didier Lavergne and Jan Archibald won the Academy Award for Best Acheivement in Makeup for the period film La Vie en Rose, starring Marion Cotillard, (who also took home Oscar-gold that night for her portrayal of French singer Edith Piaf).
·      My middle name is Rose, after my dear Nauni (or “grandmother” in Italian) who recently passed away this January. I miss her every day and am constantly looking to infuse her signature sweetness into my own daily life.

And the Oscar goes to… the perfect shade of rose lipstick, crafted by Lipstick Queen’s Poppy King.
Selecting the perfect shade of lipstick in such a saturated market can be a daunting task, right? So many brands, so little time… Lucky for you, I’m here to make it easy: start by trying the Lipstick Queen shade HotRose ($20 matte color, not shimmery). This shade works easily on fair, medium, and deep skinned hues. King’s line is known for the pigment that goes into their product. You can be sure your shade won’t fade yet lips never feel dry due to the incredibly hydrating shea butter complex.

Oscar Recipe: Smoked Salmon Mousse

Smoked Salmon Mousse

This recipe comes straight from Wolfgang Puck's menu for this year's post-Oscar Governor's Ball. This light, creamy, flavorful, and beautiful mousse fills that role deliciously. Better still, it takes just a few minutes to make. Serve it with thinly sliced toasted pumpernickel bread for spreading, or serve as a dip with a selection of good-quality crackers.

Award-Winning Fashion from Pink Champagne

By Fashionista, Michelle Michaud

The Oscars are upon us, and I am ready for some serious fashion eye candy! (Is there a reason to watch beyond simply swooning over the gowns gracing the red carpet?) Although I would love to slip into an Oscar-worthy gown each day, practicality unfortunately wins out and gets in the way. This doesn’t mean that a girl can’t take a little inspiration from the red carpet for her everyday style. Here are some lessons that can be learned from last year’s best dressed ladies:
Here’s how to incorporate some red carpet looks into your everyday style with a sprinkle of glam.

Lady in red: the siren wearing sultry red always make an appearance on the red carpet year after year. Add a little spice to your look a la Michelle Williams.

Look fierce and daytime appropriate wearing red below the belt. Red pants paired with a fur vest are both chic and casual at once.

Which brings me to…Peplum: I have a sneaky suspicion that peplum is here to stay (at least for another season). Tina Fey shone in Carolina Herrera this ladylike silhouette last year.
