Baby News and a Kate Spade Baby Shower!

I know, I know, it's been awhile since I've done a new blog post... like a LONG while but let's just say things have been a little busy. If you follow along on social media then you may have seen the news that it's not just food baking in the oven over here... that's right, we're expecting! We are thrilled to welcome our little lady into this world this November!

So, in addition to sharing this exciting news, I thought I would also share with you some images from the beautiful baby shower that my friends threw for us here in California. (You'll get a peek at our Lilly Pulitzer Themed East Coast Baby Shower in another post soon!)

Now, I maaaaay have dropped a few hints here and there but my girlfriends knew the perfect theme to pick for my baby shower out here in Cali, Kate Spade. I must stop and say that I am fully aware planning a baby shower for a hormonal, OCD, control freak cannot be an easy task so I have to commend my girls Shirin, Kim and Jen for doing such an amazing job!

I had a bunch of ideas that my girls executed perfectly from onesie stations to photo booth props. I also have to thank my team at work for putting together such an amazing menu filled with my favorite craving foods!

Take a look at the photos below and hopefully they will inspire you!

Guests took home polka-dot clad tins filled with loose leaf tea and "Baby Potts is Brewing" stickers on them with the instructions to brew up a cup when they get the news that our little lady has made her debut!

For activities, they had onesies and bibs out for guests to decorate... some got a little too creative with this! They also had a basket of diapers for everyone to write some "words of encouragement" on which came out pretty hilarious too!

Adorable Tea Sandwiches and Wedge Salads with the perfect shade of pink pickled onions!

Watermelon Feta Skewers, Roasted Asparagus Salad, "Godmother" Sandwiches,
Cucumber Sandwiches (my major pregnancy craving!), Pasta Salad, Pickled Veggies, and Hummus/Pita.

Cake Pops, Key Lime Parfaits, Blueberry Tarts, Peach Hand Pies,
Pink Velvet Twinkies and Kate Spade approved  Cupcakes!

Can't forget about the incredible food! It pays off to work for a world-renowned Chef and catering company on days like this! Adorable tea sandwiches, fresh salads and scrumptious desserts were aplenty and beautifully presented. My wiz-of-a-baker friend Jen made the awesome themed cupcakes and my husband made sure to scoop up some rosé flavored gummies from Sugarfina to compliment to stunning venue, Malibu Wines.

A huge thanks to everyone who attended and made us feel so ridiculously loved. We are truly lucky to bring our little girl into this world filled with such a supportive group of friends.

DIY Storage Ottoman Makeover

As I admitted in my last DIY post, ever since moving into our new place, I have been on a craft-kick. When we were cleaning out our old apartment, I tried to look at everything with Pinterest-blinders and see if there would be a way to repurpose things, and sure enough… there was! One thing in particular was our old storage ottoman that we bought at Target when we first moved to LA. Now something in my head at the time told me that it would be completely sensible to get this ottoman and let it double as storage and a coffee table. Not going to lie, that was a mistake. We managed with it for a few years but finally we caved an bought a real wooden coffee table and let the ottoman live the rest of its life as it was meant to.

After three years with us and numerous claw marks in it from our ferocious cats, it was time to decide whether or not it was getting tossed or revamped. It was after seeing the Carmel Ottoman on a trip to Living Spaces that I knew this little bugger would be my next DIY project.

After looking up a few different tutorials, I found this one from Guyer Family Blog. They had the exact same ottoman as I did and showed really simple steps to get it done. Now mind you, I DO NOT SEW, so this tutorial was right up my alley. I’ve learned that if you give me a staple gun I can redecorate the world!

Please feel free to refer to the tutorial from Guyer Family Blog for full instructions, but here’s a heads up as to what you’ll need.

Materials:
3 yards of fabric, I suggest getting a bottom-weight or light canvas material.

IKEA Hack: DIY Gold Bar Cart

As some of you might know from following along on Instagram, The Mr. and I recently moved into a new townhouse. We're pretty pumped because this place had everything we've always said we wanted in place, at least while we're still renting.

This blank slate of a home left me eager to start tackling so many of the DIY projects saved on my Pinterest boards, many of which were IKEA hacks! Much like with my cooking, I love being able to take one thing and turn it into another. I'm a sucker for a do-over!

I had seen many IKEA bar cart hacks like this one from History In High Heels and knew I wanted to try it out for myself. Compared to the $200+ options for bar carts that are out there, this project came in under $50!

Here's what you need to tackle this project, only 2 things!:

1 IKEA - BYGEL Utility Cart (please note, this listing is for online purchase and includes shipping cost)

And of course any decor and glassware that you'd like!

What to do:

In a ventilated area, spray all the metal fixtures that come with the IKEA Utility Cart. Be sure to spray the paint at least 6 inches away from the pieces in a sweeping motion for even coverage. I strongly recommend giving it two coats and letting it fully dry in between each coat.

Assemble the Utility Cart per the IKEA instructions and decorate how you would like it!

I got many of the items on my bar cart from places like HomeGoods, TJMaxx, and Z Gallerie
