[Restaurant Review] Public Kitchen & Bar @ The Roosevelt

When I think of The Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood my mind instantly thinks of LiLo & Paris out on the town along with the other young Hollywood Elite. Being a recent transplant to the West Coast it was merely the images splashed on TMZ of this historic hotel that gave me this reference however last week I was given the opportunity to go check the place out for myself and I was blown away.

The Roosevelt is truly a historic landmark. When you walk in, the dim lighting and Gothic architecture bring you right back to the time of Grace Kelly and Clark Gable. I met my host in Public Kitchen & Bar for what we planned on being Happy Hour but was pleasantly surprised when we recieved a medley of favorites from the kitchen of Executive Chef Tim Goodell.

We started off with a parade of appetizers that included Fresh Parker Rolls, a Burratta cheese plate, a plate of Charred Octopus that was out of this world and an amazing Apple Fennel Salad (Click here for the recipe).

Since we had an array of appetizers to choose from, our eyes enlarged when it was time to dive into our Entrees. Thankfully our fantastic server gave us a coffee digestive cocktail to help us enjoy our dinner without feeling stuffed!

Our entrees were works of art. We decided we were going to share the Sea Scallops, being from New England, I'm a sucker for a scallop [Pronounced Sc-ALLLLL-OP not Sc-aaaaa-lop]. This dish was delightful with jumbo sized scallops, which is super hard to find out here, garnished with cherrystone clams, chorizo and saffron. Obviously this dish won my Portuguese heart! Just when we thought that was enough, the chef sent out a few more of his favorites including the Spiced Duck Breast, the Mussels & Clams, and the Sea Bass. Now as some of you know, not the biggest fish fan but this Sea Bass was done right!! Crisp skin, light flesh and a to die for sweet potato bernaise! (Click here for the recipe).

Thank goodness for that digestive cocktail we got because we were STILL not done. It was on to dessert. Seasonal favorites Apple Pie and Pumpkin Cheesecake were on the menu and they were surprisingly light so it was the perfect closing act to this culinary performance!
